Where are my memories stored?

In the current version, your journal content stays locally on your iPhone. Positivity Journal does not receive or read it.

Do I have to allow photos, camera, or microphone access?

No. These permissions are optional. The photo library is used when you choose photos or videos, and the camera when you choose Camera. Microphone access is used to record voice notes or videos with sound. The optional on-device transcript feature also requests microphone permission when you choose it. The rest of the journal remains available if you decline.

How do I create a backup?

While your journal is unlocked, open Settings, then Privacy & backups, and choose Create a backup. Save the exported file somewhere private and trusted. The file is not protected by your journal passcode.

How do I restore a backup?

Open Settings, then Privacy & backups, and choose Restore a backup. Select a Positivity Journal backup and review the confirmation before completing the restore.

How will the five-day trial work?

For the planned App Store release, you can choose to start a free five-day trial through Apple. It includes up to ten photos and five videos across your journal, plus unlimited voice notes. You can read the allowances and what happens afterwards before starting. There is no automatic charge when the trial ends. The current development preview does not take payments or enforce the trial and free-tier allowances.

What happens after the five-day trial?

After the trial, the planned free journal includes one photo and one voice note per memory. Adding new videos, or removing the trial and free-tier media allowances, requires the optional lifetime unlock. Your written memories, affirmations, and media you already saved remain available to read, edit, play, remove, export, and restore. Each memory can hold up to ten photos and videos combined in every tier, including the lifetime unlock.

Is the lifetime unlock a subscription?

No. The planned lifetime unlock is a separate, optional one-time purchase through Apple. There is no subscription or automatic renewal. The app will show the price in your App Store currency before you choose to buy.

How will I restore a purchase?

In the planned App Store version, open Settings, then Journal preferences, then Trial & lifetime unlock, and choose Restore Purchase using the Apple Account that made the purchase. Restoring a purchase does not restore journal content. To bring back memories from an exported journal backup, use Settings → Privacy & backups → Restore a backup.

What if I forget my passcode?

Positivity Journal cannot reveal your passcode or unlock your journal remotely. If you previously enabled Face ID or Touch ID, try that option. If it opens your journal, you can create a backup from Settings. You cannot create a new backup while the journal is locked. Deleting the app removes its local memories; an exported backup saved beforehand is needed to restore those memories through the app’s restore feature. Reinstalling does not guarantee that protection will clear if iOS restores app data or settings.

How do I permanently delete something?

Open Settings, then Recently deleted & reset, then Recently deleted. Choose the item you want to remove permanently. Your chosen retention setting can also remove deleted items automatically.
