Privacy Policy

Your journal is personal. We treat it that way.

Effective August 27, 2026

Positivity Journal is a Canada-based, private, on-device journal. This policy applies to people who use the app in Canada, the United States, and any other country or region where the app is made available. The current version does not require an account and does not include advertising, analytics, data brokers, or cross-app tracking.

Who is responsible for privacy

Positivity Journal is responsible for personal information under its control. The person accountable for privacy compliance is the Privacy Officer, Positivity Journal, who can be reached at support.positivityjournal@gmail.com.

Positivity Journal is operated from Canada. Depending on where you live and how information is handled, applicable law may include Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), a substantially similar Canadian provincial law, or privacy law in your U.S. state or other jurisdiction.

Journal information stored on your device

The app stores the information needed to provide its journal features locally on your device. This may include:

The current version does not transmit this journal information to Positivity Journal or to third-party advertising or analytics services. Because Positivity Journal does not receive it, we cannot view, retrieve, correct, or delete your on-device journal content for you.

Photos and microphone

Positivity Journal requests access to your photos only when you choose to add photos to a memory. It requests microphone access only when you choose to record a voice note. These permissions are optional, can be changed at any time in iPhone Settings, and are used only to provide the feature you selected. The rest of the journal remains available if either permission is declined.

Information you choose to send outside the app

If you email support, Positivity Journal receives the email address, name, message, and attachments you choose to provide. This information is used to answer your request, investigate a problem, maintain the security and reliability of the app, and meet legal obligations. Support messages are kept only as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes.

Email and this public website are provided using third-party services. Those providers may process basic technical information, such as an IP address or browser information, and may process information outside Canada. Their handling of that information is governed by their own terms and privacy practices.

Apple separately processes App Store downloads, purchases, subscriptions, and Apple Account information under Apple's privacy practices. Positivity Journal does not receive your journal content through Apple.

Accounts, analytics, advertising, and tracking

The current version does not use an account system, third-party advertising, analytics, data brokers, or cross-app tracking. Positivity Journal does not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, or create advertising profiles about people who use the app.

Backups and sharing

The Backup & Export feature creates a readable file that may contain journal entries, affirmations, photos, voice notes, recently deleted items, and two preferences: your theme colours and Recently Deleted retention setting. You decide whether and where to save or share that file. Exported files are not protected by the in-app passcode and are governed by the privacy and security practices of the destination you choose. Store backups only in a private, trusted location.

Passcode, Face ID, and Touch ID

If you enable the optional four-digit passcode, it is stored using secure storage on your iPhone and is required before the journal opens. The passcode restricts access to the app on that device; it does not encrypt exported backup files.

If you choose biometric unlock, authentication is performed by iOS. Positivity Journal receives only whether the authentication succeeded. The app does not receive or store your face, fingerprint, or other biometric information.

Reminders

If you enable gentle reminders, Positivity Journal requests notification permission and schedules a generic reminder on your device at the time you select. Reminder text does not include journal content. You can turn reminders off in the app or withdraw notification permission in iPhone Settings.

Safeguards

Positivity Journal limits permissions and data handling to what is needed for the features you choose. Journal content is kept within the app's local iOS storage, and the optional passcode is kept in secure iPhone storage. No method of storage is guaranteed to be completely secure. You are responsible for protecting access to your device and for storing exported backups in a secure location.

Retention and deletion

Journal content remains on your device until you edit or delete it, the selected Recently Deleted retention period removes it, or the app's local data is removed. You can restore or permanently remove items from Recently Deleted. Deleting the app removes the journal data stored by the app from that iPhone. If you reinstall Positivity Journal, its first launch removes any passcode entry that iOS Keychain may have retained from the previous installation. Copies stored in an iPhone device backup or in files you exported must be managed separately wherever those copies are stored.

Support communications are retained only as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain appropriate business records, protect the app, or comply with law.

Your privacy choices and rights

You can view, edit, export, or delete your journal content directly in the app. You can also withdraw photo, microphone, biometric, or notification permission through the app or iPhone Settings, depending on the permission.

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights concerning personal information under Positivity Journal's control. These may include rights to request access, correction, or deletion; to withdraw consent; to receive information about use and disclosure; or to challenge compliance. U.S. state law may also provide rights to know, correct, delete, or opt out of certain uses of personal information. Positivity Journal does not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.

To make a privacy request, contact the Privacy Officer at support.positivityjournal@gmail.com. We may need enough information to understand and verify the request. Because your journal content is stored only on your device, we cannot retrieve or alter that content remotely.

Children

Positivity Journal is a general-audience app and is not directed to children under 13. The current version does not transmit journal content to the developer. If you believe a child has sent personal information to support, contact the Privacy Officer so the request can be reviewed and the information deleted where appropriate.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated to reflect changes to the app, legal requirements, or data practices. If Positivity Journal begins transmitting or collecting information in a materially new way, the policy and App Store privacy disclosures will be updated before that change is released, and consent will be requested where required. The effective date at the top shows when this policy was last revised.

Questions or complaints

For privacy questions, requests, or complaints, contact the Privacy Officer at support.positivityjournal@gmail.com. We will review and respond to privacy concerns within a reasonable time.

Canadian residents may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the applicable provincial privacy commissioner. U.S. residents may contact their state attorney general or privacy regulator where applicable. These options do not limit any rights available under applicable law.
